Temporomandibular (Jaw) joint is a sliding hinge joint present on both sides of the head and connects jaw to the skull. Jaw pain may be due to a combination of factors, such as genetics, arthritis or jaw injury. Some people who have jaw pain also tend to clench or grind their teeth (bruxism) . In most cases, pain and discomfort due to TMJ disorders is temporary and can be managed by non-invasive methods. Symptoms may also include pain in and around ears, head ache, difficulty or pain while chewing, clicking sounds, locking of the joint, making it difficult to open or close your mouth.
At Woodstock Dentistry, we evaluate the underlying causes like bruxism, night time grinding, trauma, unbalanced bite (Occlusion) and try to help with lasers therapy etc. for immediate relief and different appliances and techniques for long term management of pain and locking of joints.
